Demographic for room renters?
Mar. 2nd, 2019 07:10 amAfter eleven years renting out rooms in my home, it seems that a single person rents a room in a private home because:
1. they just don't want to live alone, even though they could financially get an apartment. Good Ol' Boy Tenant said this and was with me for 18 months, a stellar Joe.
2. they loused up their credit and so cannot pass screening from most apartment complexes.
3. their health is such that they don't think they ought to live alone. Nice Epileptic Lady lived with me for over 2 years.
4. they can't pay all at once the huge entry requirements of many complexes: first month, last month, and cleaning deposit.
5. they are probationers and parolees, which many places refuse to rent to.
6. they have mental problems, can't get along with anybody for long and thus have been serially kicked out of previous co-op arrangements like having housemates.
7. they are college students and it's fairly cheap.
8. they are traveling nurses and it's fairly cheap.
Does anyone have another group to offer?
9. they live in a ridiculously expensive city and renting a room is the only affordable option that suits their needs (like living close to downtown) [from LJ's Krissi]
10. they have pets and a smaller housing situation than a complex is more flexible regarding animals, plus there may be a backyard for the pets. [from LJ's Kirstennnnnn]
11. they are in a hurry. Moving due to job, divorcing and need to get out quickly, whatever the reason, they can subsist on bags of clothes and toiletries before shopping around for more permanent digs. [from LJ's Tabular_Rasa]
