I think this vid sums up my opinion of AUs and fusions musically because it blends Mongolian throat singing and Latvian drum and bagpipe; in other words, I like any sort of AU or fusion. The talent to make me recognize Obi-Wan's character whether as a NCIS investigator, vole, or ethereal Jedi whose wings exist in a parallel dimension makes me humbly happy to applaud.

Jan. 29th, 2022 12:21 pm1. a fannish item
I rented out rooms in the past on airbnb and this hangs still in the 'Star Wars room.' Many consider Empire Strikes Back the best of the series.
2. something round
This used to be round until I broke it. I'm putting it back together with Gorilla Glue because it's the top globe in a beloved lamp - you can see the handpainted hummingbirds if you turn the photo upside down.
3. something that is your favorite color
My favorite color is plaid; this woolen covers my rocker, which is what I'm off of right at this moment, no wisecracks, now! :)
4. the last game you played (video, phone, table top, etc.)
Reminiscing is my favorite because I always beat Youngest at it. *smug smile*
5. a book you are currently reading
From Here To Eternity by James Jones. It's dense, immersive prose to get through ... and enjoy. I sit here in winter sunshine on the W side of the house to read.
6. album art of the first song that comes up on shuffle I'll Remember April is on my YouTube playlist so that counts, right? Dick Foran sings with feeling to Anne Gwynne; he starred in many B movies and also in westerns and she was known as 'Queen of the Screamers' in several horror films. She's also Chris Pine's grandmother.
7. the last movie you watched Doctor Zhivago, the perfect cold weather movie.
8. TV show you're currently watching I've enjoyed Jeopardy! Someday I'll get into The Mandalorian, but that day is not today. :/
9. the homescreen, lockscreen, or desktop wallpaper from your device
Desktop, nice and dark.

Jan. 28th, 2022 10:10 pmI just love this one and did I hear somebody say silly?
Here goes:
Fandoming generally involves sitting, although one may stand while reading on one's phone on the subway, recline in bed or on the couch while thinking of how to respond to today's challenge, etc., so let's change that up. I challenge Snowflakes to get physical: roll the shoulders, twitch the toes, do isometrics with the fingers, and exercise the body part that most needs it, the glutes. Yes! On count of three, clench those glutes! All together now!
One two three CLENCH!
and relax and
CLENCH!
and relax and
CLENCH! Harder! You can do it! Let's go, Snowflakes!!

Jan. 25th, 2022 08:29 pmA cherished fandom memory is writing my very first fic, only it was a collab between about five of us pajama partyers to spread the joy. Star Trek: TOS was the victim subject of fervent scribblings on yellow legal pads. Friend transcribed the plot and setting input because we already knew the characterizations of Kirk, Spock and McCoy from watching the show; naturally we added OCs bearing a noted resemblance to ourselves. Happily, I recall basic genres and familiar elements such as hurt/comfort with *I think?* Kirk tending Spock's injuries after the shuttlecraft crashed; they took shelter in a cave. The pages are lost to time; the fannish energy lives still, particularly on WhmzCoat, where convention attendees glam up in delightful costumes that Friend designs and sews. Just a few weeks back, we chatted over Life and Fandom, so you can see why the memory glows.

Jan. 21st, 2022 06:55 amFun timez. News on the animal front: I spotted a lil brown bunny on the loose yesterday in some bushes and posted about it in nextdoor to see if a neighbor is missing the wanderer; it looked domestic. I raised rabbits for a long time and they're adorable with fascinating habits. In other news, there may be a mole in the backyard because though the grass looms one foot high, a tunnel bulges underneath so ... :)
Here's the bunny.

Jan. 19th, 2022 03:00 pmHere's a finely detailed fanart from the Penguins of Madagascar that moonwolf03 crafted in MS Paint. Really. More of the gallery shows fun ideas, touches of slash, and multiple works in multiple fandoms, yowza in MS Paint. The dedication of FIAWOL astounds! (Fandom Is A Way Of Life)

Have a Top 5 List you'd like to share?? By all means!
Taking a cue from
seal_girl who listed five favorite seals, I'm listing five animals:
1. Saola
2. Penguin

4. Squirrel
5. Mockingbird, who seems to have deserted my neighborhood after years of inspiring and comforting song all night long. In the long dark nights, I'd awaken as usual at least once and listen for some time.

Jan. 14th, 2022 08:20 amLiveJournal's crack_van comm provided oodles of recs and sparked much joy from 2004-2014. Though closed, I enjoy returning to it to refresh the old gray cells of memory. The link goes to just my posts, but the comm's profile contains such richness of fandomitude. :)
Speaking of the old gray cells, storyfinders helps one identify that pesky beloved fic that one simply cannot recall the author and title. You know the one I mean.
fanart_recs helps so much to find enjoyable artwork and it doesn't even need to be in one of my fandoms. I just like looking at stuff.
Fourthly, fancake offers recs in most every fandom and not only for ficcage, but also for art.
Fifthly, this wiki for the Madagascar fandom continues to please with updates on a possible 4th *!* film plus ongoing activity from its members re quotes, images and information on all aspects of the franchise.

Jan. 7th, 2022 08:21 amMy wish is for a fic rec sublimely specific and I dare to:
1. Hope beyond hope that it exists, first of all. Next,
2. The setting and era are important, the fandom is not, easy so far, right?
3. Setting to be somewhere "exotic" to the United States, such as warlord-era China, tropic Australia, mysterious-to-the-West Albania, perhaps traveling to the setting, such as aboard a ship or train ...
4. Now the era:Gulp. Early 20th century 1910ish to just before World War II.
5. It gets tougher (or not) when the fic contains American servicemen of any branch of the service, Navy, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force (called the Army Air Force until after WWII and very early on it was part of the Army Signal Corps but you know what I mean), Marines (preferred!) The servicemen characters can be the main characters or minor characters (OCs welcome), just so they are servicemen ... in an "exotic" locale ... likely on a mission or possibly vacationing ... *trails off, gibbering*
Anyway, there is my wish. *beams hopefully*

Jan. 3rd, 2022 11:47 amRefurbished, pruned and tightened profile for Dreamwidth and closed up shop at LiveJournal for my resolution, so here goes nuttin':
If you're just here for the stories, voilĂ !
Hello, folks. I write copy for textbroker.com; if you have the ambition to write fanfiction, try a short 'missing moment' scene, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi's reaction when Qui-Gon Jinn describes him as "capable."
Author has written 101 stories for Star Wars, Odyssey, Edgar Allan Poe, Shakespeare, Penguins of Madagascar, Greek Mythology, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Justice League, and Little Women. This blurb from fanfictionDAHTNET shows what I've written in, and here are a few *@@* more fandoms providing glorious reads to brighten my days: Marvel Agents of SHIELD, Batman, Agent Carter, Jurassic Park, Wild Wild West, Laredo, Sherlock Holmes, Sgt. Fury, Thor, Hogan's Heroes, Phantom Stranger, Aquaman, and Constantine.
There is pronkerblog at wordpress containing my long fic "Undertow" with glacial updates and a spiffy graphic; this story is also on fanfictionDAHTNET along with adult-fanfictionDAHTNET and Archive Of Our Own; ~*~*~*~*~*~ please note M rating. ~~*~*~~*~*~*~~
If you are into fanart, tumblr has stunning POM (and other fandoms!) cartoons offered by drawbauchery, and if you browse through the archive of humanized POM works via the pom tag, it's a trove of fannish goodness. Also, there is superb regular and humanized POM art by tumblr's tgoru. :) *siiiigh* Pixiv, tumblr and twitter make me yearn to read Russian, Japanese and Korean soooo much.
Why is this POM fandom such darn fun? (written for Snowflake's challenge of some years ago)
"Dear Small Fandom,
I love you. I treasure each review, like, kudos, heart and lurking view! You are precious to me and your creativity astounds, particularly the fanart. Nuances abound in both humanized and original POM format across the web. Keep it up! Your small scope makes me happy in large doses. Also good is tumblr's IncorrectPomQuotes that introduced me to the concept of incorrect quotes in many fandoms.
Love,
pronker"
This is what made me laugh hardest about the Penguins of Madagascar fandom, because it encapsulates all the relationships between the main characters. From Madagascar 2:
Skipper: Operation Tourist Trap is a go.
Private: Oh, I like that one!
Kowalski: Works on many levels, sir.
Skipper: You guys are a bunch of suckups!
Kowalski: That too, sir!
Private: Absolutely!
Rico: Aye!
In a similar vein, the tumblr of incorrectpomquotes offers this:
Skipper: You don't need perfect people to make a perfect team. You need people whose flaws feed into each other. It's, uh - what do you call it - umm ...
Kowalski: Codependence.
Skipper: Synergy. For instance, there might be something Rico hates doing but Private loves doing. Or there might be something that Private hates doing but he does it anyways because what he really loves is to feel useful.
Kowalski: You literally just defined "codependence."
Skipper: *clink* Here's to synergy.
[gigglesnort]
Life Verse for the Internet's Message Boards: "Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions." Proverbs 18:2 NIV.
You have blanket permission to remix/podfic/draw/cross stitch on a fluffy pillow, etc. any of my works - just let me know when it's done so I can see it. On Jan. 1, 2022, I imported my LiveJournal to Dreamwidth; please let me know if any links are missing from the sausage. :)
